The last weekend of the 2023 season of the Women’s European Championship starts in the name of Roberta Ponziani (Roc’n’DeA). The rider from Abruzzo sets the best time in both the first and second free practice sessions of the Virus Power Imola Round, so she becomes leader of the combined classification at the end of Friday. Ponziani precedes Beatriz Neila Santos (511 Racing Team), who closes Day 1 in second position.
The reigning champion is only 114 thousandths behind the leader of the day. Behind her, Sara Cabrini (Gradara Corse) is third. The home track is great for the Italians, since we find three of them in the first four positions, with Aurelia Cruciani (Roc’n’DeA), fourth. Natalia Rivera (Trasimeno) concludes Friday’s free practice with the fifth time ahead of Israeli Ran Yochay (Celo Racing), sixth.
The middle group is again very international, Patrycja Sowa (Sowa Racing) is seventh in the combined WEC classification (eighth overall), followed by Jessica Howden (Trasimeno), eighth. Closing out the European top 10 are Austrian Lena Kemmer (Bertlkr Racing) and Beatrice Barbera (GP3 AD11), ninth and tenth respectively. Complicated day for the Sardinian rider, who crashed in FP2, and a red flag stopped the session for a while.
Martina Guarino (MotoXRacing) is out of the top 10 for a bit, she is 11th ahead of wild card Abigail Bosson (Trasimeno), 12th WEC and 15th overall. The other wild card Savannah Woodward (GP3 AD11) closes Friday with the 13th time, preceding Maria Saluste (Motoclub Sinilind), 14th WEC and 23rd in the combined with the CIV Women.
Roberta Ponziani – 1st position
“It was a positive day, it was a shame for the red flag in FP2, I had a free track and had a good pace. I am confident for tomorrow, I like the track a lot, so I am happy. The conditions will be difficult because of the cold and the light, we’ll have to manage everything well”.
Beatriz Neila Santos – 2nd position
“I am happy because we fixed the bike between the morning and the afternoon. I like the track, it’s true that we found traffic, and I couldn’t do a good lap. But the team and I are happy because the work is going well and tomorrow will be better. I thank everybody”.
Sara Cabrini – 3rd position
“I am third, but we are riding slowly. Now let’s work something out with the team. I can’t drive as I would like, but I am sure that tomorrow we will be able to find a solution to be closer to the first ones. Thanks to everyone”.
Tomorrow Qualifying 1 will start at 9am and Qualifying 2 at 5.20pm. The weekend will end with the race, which will start on Sunday at 10.40am. The race will be broadcast live on MS Motor TV’s Facebook page, on the MS Plus platform, and deferred on SKY channel 229 (MsMotorTV) at 12:30pm.

Ponziani comanda le libere del Virus Power Imola Round
Inizia nel segno di Roberta Ponziani (Roc’n’DeA) l’ultimo weekend della stagione 2023 della Women’s European Championship. La pilota abruzzese sigla il miglior tempo sia nel primo che nel secondo turno di prove libere del Virus Power Imola Round, andando così a comandare la classifica combinata al termine del venerdì. Ponziani precede Beatriz Neila Santos (511 Racing Team), che chiude il Day 1 in seconda posizione.
La campionessa in carica paga solo 114 millesimi di ritardo dalla leader di giornata. Alle sue spalle c’è Sara Cabrini (Gradara Corse), terza. La pista di casa fa bene alle italiane, ne troviamo ben tre nelle prime quattro posizioni, con Aurelia Cruciani (Roc’n’DeA), quarta. Natalia Rivera (Trasimeno) conclude il venerdì di libere con il quinto tempo davanti all’israeliana Ran Yochay (Celo Racing), sesta.
Il centro gruppo è ancora una volta molto internazionale, Patrycja Sowa (Sowa Racing) è settima nella classifica combinata WEC (ottava nella generale), seguita da Jessica Howden (Trasimeno), ottava. Chiudono la top 10 dell’europeo l’austriaca Lena Kemmer (Bertlkr Racing) e Beatrice Barbera (GP3 AD11), nona e decima rispettivamente. Giornata complicata per la sarda, caduta nelle FP2 con conseguente bandiera rossa. L’azione è ripresa poco dopo.
Sfiora la top 10 Martina Guarino (MotoXRacing), 11esima davanti alla wild card Abigail Bosson (Trasimeno), 12esima WEC e 15esima generale. L’altra wild card Savannah Woodward (GP3 AD11) chiude il venerdì con il 13° tempo, precedendo Maria Saluste (Motoclub Sinilind), 14esima WEC e 23esima nella combinata con il CIV Femminile.

“È stata una giornata positiva, peccato per la bandiera rossa nelle FP2, avevo pista libera e avevo preso un bel ritmo. Sono fiduciosa per domani, la pista mi piace molto, quindi sono contenta. Le condizioni saranno difficili per il freddo e per la luce, bisognerà gestire bene”.
Beatriz Neila Santos 2^ posizione
“Sono contenta perché abbiamo sistemato la moto tra la mattina e il pomeriggio. La pista mi piace, è vero che abbiamo trovato traffico e non ho potuto fare un giro buono. Ma siamo contenti con il team perché il lavoro va bene e domani andrà meglio. Ringrazio tutti”.
Sara Cabrini 3^ posizione
“Sono terza, ma stiamo girando piano. Ora vediamo di risolvere qualcosa con il team. Non riesco a guidare come vorrei, ma sono sicura che domani riusciremo a trovare una soluzione per essere più vicine alle prime. Grazie a tutti”.
Domani andranno in scena le Qualifiche 1 alle ore 9 e le Qualifiche 2 alle ore 17:20. Il weekend si concluderà con la gara, che scatterà domenica alle ore 10:40. La gara verrà trasmessa in diretta sulla pagina Facebook di MS Motor TV, sulla piattaforma MS Plus e in differita sul canale 229 di SKY (MsMotorTV) alle ore 12:30.
