It seemed like only yesterday that another season of the Women’s European Championship had begun, and in the blink of an eye 2023 came to an end. New year, new name…same challenge: to increase the female presence within motorsport by putting women at the center of attention. What better way than to allow them to put on a suit and helmet and realize their dream of becoming a driver? 

EMG Eventi has been working for a long time to enable girls to realize their dreams and has done so again in this 2023, where so many steps forward have been taken in both human and technical terms. The girls showed themselves to be decidedly united in their healthy rivalry and this enabled the grid to be enriched not only with talent but also with female solidarity, which when it wants to can be very powerful.  

Once again, the winner was Beatriz Neila Santos, as recalled by Max De Simone of EMG Eventi, organizer of the championship: “A very exciting WEC season comes to an end with the confirmation of multiple champion Beatriz Neila Santos. As EMG Eventi, I would like to thank all the drivers and teams for a season to remember, with races of the highest level. We are working for the 2024 season to create an even better and more exciting championship. Finally, I would like to thank all the companies that have supported us and the various European Motorcycle Federations”. 

Getting the project off the ground was not easy, but even more difficult was taking it forward and growing it. The pandemic complicated things, but the WEC is still here, firmer, and better prepared than ever. Our Sandro Carusi, the championship’s promoter, reminds us: “I am very satisfied with the growth of this championship, which in all four editions has given us so many emotions and satisfactions. It started in the middle of the pandemic and in a short time has become a reference in women’s motorcycling. I thank all the girls who have participated and all the teams who have believed in us”. 

Not only teams, but the Federation also played its part. Once again, it offered great support to the championship, doing so with great enthusiasm and passion. Antonella Martometti, Member of the FIM and FMI Women’s Commission, says: “The last race was really exciting. Although the European title had already been awarded, we saw a challenge to the last corner! The level of the Championship this year was even higher, and we saw a growth of all the riders. 

“Certainly, the presence of so many participants from all over the world, each with different experiences, made the races even more exciting. Congratulations to Champion Beatriz Neila Santos, who never lost her fighting spirit despite having the title already in her pocket, to rookie Natalia Rivera who added talent to the championship, and to Roberta Ponziani who never lost her determination to make it to the next round. Congratulations also to the promoter EMG Eventi, who has taken the championship even higher”, she continues, sharing her enthusiasm about her participation in the WEC. 

The emotion at the end of the fourth season of the Women’s European Championship is enormous, especially seeing the great growth shown step by step, as Letizia Marchetti, Federal FMI Technic recalls: “It is with great pride and honor that for the fourth consecutive year I see an extraordinary sporting season come to an end. As a witness of the birth and evolution of the Italian and European Women’s Championships, I would never have imagined witnessing such a high level in terms of number of participants and competitive level. As their Technician I must say that the girls’ performances were exemplary and their technical level has grown over the years, the result of their commitment and the great passion they have for motorcycling”.

This season was a testimony that the combination of passion talent and professionalism of everyone made the difference. I look forward to following again the challenges that the future holds for these extraordinary athletes and for this Championship that continues to amaze and inspire us,” she says. 

An inspiration, that is what the WEC aspired to become and is becoming more and more. Witness our girls, who took to the track and put on an incredible show. First, Beatriz Neila Santos, reigning champion: “The championship was a bit difficult, especially at the beginning of the season. I was with a different team and a different bike, everything was different. But it is true that we worked a lot both on the bike and off it. We did a good job, and it shows because in the end we won the title. I am very happy and I really, really want to thank everybody again!”. 

The champion is now a veteran, but the rookies also stood out for their talent. Among them was Natalia Rivera, who fought for the championship and finished as European runner-up: “We are happy to have finished in second position in our first year, without knowing any of the tracks where we raced nor the Dunlop tyres. We did a great job during the whole season; it was also not easy to do two championships together (I also raced in Spain). For this I would like to thank the team and my family so much, who always support me.

It is not always easy for the girls, as every championship has its happy moments and its more difficult ones. Roberta Ponziani, who finished the season in third place, knows something about this, but she can still be satisfied with the work she has done, also learning from her mistakes: “I expected more, both because of how it had started and because I was third for three consecutive years and this year, I was aiming for something more. But it was a tough season on an emotional level, there were important joys like the victories and very dark moments like Valencia. It was hard to restart, but I gave my all in the last few races anyway, I managed to redeem myself at the end, especially in Italy. Anyway, we showed our potential, the season was positive, you learn from your mistakes. I want to thank my team who believed in me and continue to support me. I am very happy”. 

This concludes the fourth season of the Women’s European Championship, which was full of emotions and adrenaline. The spectacle was not lacking and, after four years, continues to grow to offer an even better championship as time goes by. 

La WEC fa poker: conclusa con enorme successo la sua quarta stagione

Sembrava ieri che fosse iniziata un’altra stagione della Women’s European Championship e in un battito di ciglia si è concluso il 2023. Nuovo anno, nuovo nome…stessa sfida: quella di accrescere la presenza femminile all’interno del motorsport mettendo le donne al centro dell’attenzione. Quale miglior modo se non permettere loro di indossare tuta e casco e realizzare il sogno di diventare pilota? 

EMG Eventi sta lavorando da molto tempo per consentire alle ragazze di realizzare i propri sogni e così ha fatto anche in questo 2023, dove sono stati compiuti tanti passi in avanti sia in termini umani che tecnici. Le ragazze si sono mostrate decisamente unite nella loro sana rivalità e questo ha permesso di arricchire la griglia non solo con il talento ma anche con la solidarietà femminile, che quando vuole sa essere potentissima.  

Ancora una volta, a vincere è stata Beatriz Neila Santos, come ricorda Max De Simone di EMG Eventi, organizzatore del campionato: “Si conclude una stagione WEC molto entusiasmante, con la conferma della pluricampionessa Beatriz Neila Santos. Come EMG Eventi, mi sento di ringraziare tutte le pilote e i team per una stagione da ricordare, con gare di altissimo livello. Stiamo lavorando per la stagione 2024 per creare un Campionato ancora più performante ed entusiasmante. Ci tengo infine a ringraziare tutte le aziende che ci hanno supportato e le varie Federazioni Motociclistiche Europee”. 

Far nascere il progetto non è stato facile, ma ancora più difficile è stato portarlo avanti e farlo crescere. La pandemia ha complicato le cose, ma la WEC è ancora qui, più salda e preparata che mai. Ce lo ricorda il nostro Sandro Carusi, promoter del campionato: “Sono molto soddisfatto della crescita di questo Campionato, che in tutte e quattro le edizioni ci ha regalato tante emozioni e soddisfazioni. Iniziato in piena pandemia e diventato in poco tempo un riferimento nel motociclismo femminile. Ringrazio tutte le ragazze che hanno partecipato e tutti i team che hanno creduto in noi”. 

Non solo team, anche la Federazione ha fatto la sua parte. Ancora una volta, ha offerto un grande supporto al campionato, facendolo con grande entusiasmo e passione. Antonella Martometti, Membro Commissione Femminile FIM ed FMI, afferma: “L’ultima gara è stata veramente entusiasmante. Nonostante il titolo europeo fosse già stato assegnato, abbiamo visto una sfida sino all’ultima curva! Il livello del Campionato quest’anno è stato ancora più alto ed abbiamo visto una crescita di tutte le pilote”. 

“Sicuramente la presenza di tante partecipanti da tutto il mondo, ognuna con esperienze diverse, ha reso le gare ancora più emozionanti. Congratulazioni alla Campionessa Beatriz Neila Santos, che non ha mai perso il suo spirito di combattente nonostante il titolo già in tasca, alla rookie Natalia Rivera che ha aggiunto talento al campionato e a Roberta Ponziani che non ha mai perso la grinta per arrivare a podio. Complimenti anche al promotore EMG Eventi che ha portato il campionato ancora più in alto”, prosegue condividendo con grande entusiasmo la sua partecipazione alla WEC. 

L’emozione al termine della quarta stagione della Women’s European Championship è enorme, soprattutto vedendo la grande crescita mostrata passo dopo passo, come ricorda Letizia Marchetti, Tecnico Federale FMI: “È con grande orgoglio e onore che per il quarto anno consecutivo vedo concludersi una stagione sportiva straordinaria. Da testimone della nascita ed evoluzione del Campionato Femminile Italiano ed Europeo non avrei mai immaginato di assistere ad un livello così alto in termini di numero di partecipanti e di livello competitivo. Da loro Tecnico devo dire che le prestazioni delle ragazze sono state esemplari e il loro livello tecnico è cresciuto negli anni, frutto del loro impegno e della grande passione che hanno per il motociclismo”. 

“Voglio fare i miei complimenti a tutte le ragazze, ai promotori dei Campionati WEC e CIV Femminile per la loro professionalità e per aver sempre creduto e appoggiato il progetto femminile nel motociclismo e complimentarmi per il lavoro svolto dietro le quinte dalla Commissione Femminile FMI che ha dato molto alle ragazze organizzando collegiali tecnici di allenamento creati per loro con il supporto di noi Tecnici Federali. Infine, ringrazio la Federazione Motociclistica Italiana che crede molto in questo progetto. Questa stagione è stata una testimonianza che l’unione tra passione talento e professionalità di tutti hanno fatto la differenza. Non vedo l’ora di seguire di nuovo le sfide che il futuro riserverà a queste straordinarie atlete e a questo Campionato che continua a stupirci e ad ispirarci”, afferma.

Un’ispirazione, ecco in cosa la WEC aspirava a diventare e si sta trasformando sempre di più. Testimonianza sono le nostre ragazze, che sono scese in pista regalandoci uno spettacolo incredibile. Prima fra tutte Beatriz Neila Santos, campionessa in carica: “Il campionato è stato un po’ difficile, soprattutto all’inizio della stagione. Ero con un altro team e un’altra moto, era tutto diverso. Ma è vero che abbiamo lavorato tanto sia con la moto sia fuori. Abbiamo fatto un bel lavoro e si nota perché alla fine abbiamo vinto il titolo. Sono contentissima e veramente, voglio davvero ringraziare ancora tutti!”. 

La campionessa è ormai una veterana, ma anche le debuttanti si sono contraddistinte per il loro talento. Tra loro Natalia Rivera, che ha combattuto per il campionato chiudendo poi come vicecampionessa europea: “Siamo contenti di aver conclusa in seconda posizione al primo anno, senza conoscere nessuna delle piste dove abbiamo corso né le gomme Dunlop. Abbiamo svolto un grande lavoro durante tutta la stagione, non è stato nemmeno facile disputare due campionati insieme (ho corso anche in Spagna). Per questo vorrei ringraziare tanto il team e la mia famiglia, che mi sostengono sempre”.

Non è sempre tutto semplice per le ragazze, come ogni campionato ha i suoi momenti felici e anche quelli più difficili. Ne sa qualcosa Roberta Ponziani, che ha chiuso la stagione in terza posizione, ma può comunque ritenersi soddisfatta del lavoro svolto, imparando anche dagli errori: “Mi aspettavo di più, sia per come era partita sia perché ho fatto terza per tre anni consecutivi e quest’anno puntavo a qualcosa di più. Però è stata una stagione veramente tosta a livello emotivo, ci sono state gioie importanti come le vittorie e anche momenti molto bui come Valencia. È stata dura ripartire, ma ho dato il massimo comunque nelle ultime gare, sono riuscita a riscattarmi alla fine, soprattutto in Italia. Ad ogni modo abbiamo mostrato le nostre potenzialità, la stagione è stata positiva, dagli errori si impara. Voglio ringraziare il mio team che ha creduto in me e continuano a supportarmi. Sono contentissima”. 

Si conclude così la quarta stagione della Women’s European Championship, che è stata ricca di emozioni e di adrenalina. Lo spettacolo non è mancato e, dopo quattro anni, continua ancora a crescere per poter offrire un campionato sempre migliore con il passare del tempo.
