They won three WEC titles dominating the championship since the very first season: we are talking about Team Trasimeno, reigning champion in the 2023 season of the Women’s European Championship, and now they’re hunting for the “poker”. This year, the line up of the team lead by Moreno Bacchini is made of three girls whose goal is to confirm the great results they got in the past years and they’re giving their rivals a hard time.
“I think that the secret of our success is just having worked with reliability and professionality, we surrounded ourselves of skilled technicians and expert riders as Beatriz Neila Santos”, told us Moreno Bacchini, founder and team manager. “Our Yamahas are very competitive bikes that have the same preparation as the ones we had when we participated in the Supersport 300 world championship. Also Sara Cabrini rode with us last year, and she got great results”.
The three jewels of Team Trasimeno are Natalia Rivera, Jessica Howden and Mia Rusthen. They are three completely different riders for their origins, styles, and journeys: “This year, we made a quite different choice, betting on three girls who are very different each other: we have a young Spanish, Natalia Rivera, who proved last year in other championships that she can compete with the first ones of our championship. Of course, she is so young (16 years old) and she has not so many experience, and these facts are not playing into her hands, since she fights against more experienced riders”.
“About the South African Jessica Howden, who was fighting for the top last year, we can say that she has a very bad luck this year. The results are not the ones she deserves. Maybe, the transfer from Kawasaki to Yamaha was hard. The Norwegian Mia Rusthen is struggling with the adaptation to the Dunlop tyres. She always used other brands and until she gets used to these tyres, it won’t be easy for her to reach the goal we thought”, Bacchini explained describing the riders of his team.
Spain, South Africa and Norway, three different latitudes, just one goal: to win. Each one has her journey, but even with their diversity, they build up a great team: “Despite the different countries, in our team there’s balance and calm, none of them suffers from jealousy for their teammates”.
This is such a close group that gets great results, with Natalia Rivera in particular, so it’s not hard to think they can win again in the Women’s European Championship: “I don’t hide from the fact that our goal for this season is to win for the fourth time in a row, even we know that it’s not easy to beat Beatriz Neila Santos on her Kawasaki. We are happy with the results we are getting, though, because we saw that our girls are constantly improving”.
“We also have to keep in mind that the tracks in the calendar are new for Natalia and Mia, so for them it’s even harder. Jessica knows the tracks, but unfortunately this year she didn’t start at the 100% in terms of physical shape. She had a shoulder injury in February, and she couldn’t be able to test until the first race in Misano. Then she crashed and the shoulder injury got worse, despite the physio and the training, she is still not at her better shape”, Bacchini told, explaining the struggles of the girls.
The bad moments happen, but the determination is always there. For this reason, Team Trasimeno is still working to repeat the great results and they do this work thinking in the long-term: “About the future planes, we can say that for sure we will stay in this Championship also next year. Moreover, we are waiting for the new women championships they’re talking about, Europeans and Worldwide”.
Trasimeno won’t stop! The team believe in the project of women in motorsport and they trust the girls, who can be an important reality in motorcycling, in Europe but also in all the world.
WEC meets…Trasimeno – tre Latitudini, un solo obiettivo
Ha vinto tre titoli WEC, dominando la categoria sin dalla sua nascita: parliamo del team Trasimeno, campione in carica nella stagione 2023 della Women’s European Championship e ora a caccia del “poker”. Quest’anno, la squadra capitanata da Moreno Bacchini schiera ben tre ragazze che puntano a riconfermare gli ottimi risultati ottenuti e stanno riuscendo a dare filo da torcere alle rivali.
“Penso che il segreto del nostro successo sia solo quello di aver lavorato con serietà e professionalità, circondandoci sia di tecnici qualificati sia di piloti professionisti come è stata Beatriz Neila Santos”, ci racconta Moreno Bacchini, fondatore e team manager. “Le nostre Yamaha sono moto competitive che hanno la stessa preparazione di quelle con le quali facevamo il mondiale Supersport300. Anche Sara Cabrini, che nella scorsa stagione ha corso nel nostro team, ha ottenuto podi e posizioni di tutto rispetto”.
Le tre punte di Trasimeno sono Natalia Rivera, Jessica Howden e Mia Rusthen. Si tratta di un trio di pilote completamente diverse tra loro per provenienza e stili. “Quest’anno abbiamo fatto una scelta un po’ differente, puntando su tre ragazze molto diverse tra di loro: una giovane spagnola, Natalia Rivera, che ha già dimostrato nella scorsa stagione in altri campionati di poter combattere con le prime del nostro campionato. Certo, la giovane età (16 anni) e la poca esperienza non giocano a suo favore, lottando con pilote più esperte”.
“Sulla sudafricana Jessica Howden, già protagonista nel campionato della scorsa stagione, possiamo solo dire che quest’anno la sfortuna l’ha perseguitata, perché i risultati non sono quelli che merita. Forse anche il passaggio da Kawasaki a Yamaha è stato difficile. La norvegese Mia Rusthen sta riscontrando le difficoltà maggiori con l’adattamento agli pneumatici Dunlop. Lei ha sempre utilizzato altre marche e finché non riuscirà ad interpretare bene questa gomma, non sarà facile per lei raggiungere obiettivi che ci eravamo posti”, spiega Bacchini descrivendo le sue pilote.
Spagna, Sudafrica e Norvegia, tre latitudini e un solo obiettivo: vincere. Ognuna ha il suo percorso, ma nella loro diversità formano una grande squadra: “Nel nostro Team, nonostante le tre diverse latitudini, c’è armonia e serenità e nessuna delle tre a quanto pare soffre di gelosie o invidie rispetto alle proprie compagne di squadra”.
Con un gruppo così unito e con degli ottimi risultati, in particolare di Natalia Rivera, non è difficile pensare di ripetersi anche quest’anno nel campionato europeo femminile: “Non nascondo che l’obiettivo della stagione sarebbe quello di vincere per la quarta volta questo campionato anche se siamo consapevoli che battere Beatriz su una Kawasaki non sarà certo un’impresa facile. Siamo comunque contenti dei risultati che stiamo ottenendo, anche perché abbiamo visto una costante crescita delle ragazze”.
“Poi dobbiamo tenere presente che per Natalia e Mia sono tutte piste nuove mai viste prima, quindi per loro è ancora più difficile. Jessica invece conosce le piste, ma purtroppo quest’anno non è partita fisicamente al 100%. Un infortunio alla spalla subito nel mese di febbraio le ha impedito di fare i test fino alla prima gara di Misano. Lì è caduta ancora e ha di nuovo infortunato la stessa spalla già sofferente, nonostante fisioterapia e allenamenti, non è ancora nella sua forma migliore”, racconta Bacchini spiegando anche le difficoltà incontrate dalle altre ragazze.
I momenti complicati non mancano, ma la determinazione nemmeno. Pertanto, il team Trasimeno continua a lavorare per potersi confermare e lo fa pensando al lungo termine: “Per quanto riguarda i piani futuri del team, ad oggi possiamo dire che sicuramente rimarremo in questo Campionato anche nella prossima stagione. Inoltre stiamo aspettando l’uscita dei nuovi Campionati femminili dei quali si sta parlando sia in ambito europeo che in ambito mondiale”.
Trasimeno non ha alcuna intenzione di fermarsi! La squadra crede nel progetto femminile e ripone fiducia sulle ragazze, che possono diventare sempre più una presenza importante nel motorsport, sia in ambito continentale, sia oltreoceano.
