The 2023 season of the Women’s European Championship is on fire! Race 1 of the Gasoline Round at the Misano World Circuit ‘Marco Simoncelli’ ended in Misano, and Roberta Ponziani #96 (Roc’n’Dea) won the first race of the new campaign. Starting from the pole position, she dominated by trying to gain a margin over her pursuers. However, they didn’t let her go.

Behind the winner was Beatriz Neila Santos #36 (511 Racing Team), who finished Race 1 five tenths behind Ponziani. The reigning champion tried to win but stopped in second place, ahead of Sara Cabrini #31 (Gradara Corse), who completed the podium with third place.

Rookie Natalia Rivera #2 (Trasimeno) was only 57 thousandths off the podium, but made her WEC debut with an excellent fourth place, ahead of Aurelia Cruciani #4 (Roc’n’Dea), fifth at the chequered flag. Good performance for the Israeli Ran Yochay #100 (Celo Racing Team), seventh overall but sixth in the WEC standings.

Race 1 had a very international top 10, with Patrycja Sowa #14 (Sowa Racing) eighth in the joint WEC and CIV Women’s standings, but seventh in the WEC standings. Considering only the WEC classification, Martina Guarino #74 (MotoXracing) was eighth and Mia Rusthen #29 (Trasimeno) was ninth. Beatrice Barbera #94 (GP3 AD11) rounded out the WEC top 10.

Roberta Ponziani – Winner
“I wanted to try to escape because I knew I had a better pace. But the other girls clearly did everything they could to keep me from escaping. Only halfway through the race I managed to do a lap alone at the front and took a bit of a lead, which I managed to keep until the end. It was great, let’s see tomorrow”.

Beatriz Neila Santos – 2nd place
“The race went well, I had a lot of fun! I am very happy to have finished Race 1 in second place. Tomorrow we have another race and I hope to do better! But I am very happy”.

Sara Cabrini – 3rd place
“I’m happy, even though I have a little bit of regret, because I couldn’t stay with the first two. However, let’s say that starting on the podium is important, so at the moment I’m happy like this. We’ll see tomorrow in Race 2”.

Beatriz Neila Santos – 2^ classificata

Vedremo domani in Gara 2”.
